Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately mix and prepare printing inks to precise color specifications based on customer artwork and color standards.
- Use colorimeters and spectrophotometers to verify color accuracy and maintain consistency across promotional items such as t-shirts, mugs, and hats.
- Prepare ink batches by accurately weighing and blending raw ink pigments and additives according to specific formulas and production requirements.
- Maintain proper inventory levels of inks, tracking usage, identifying low stock, and ordering new supplies as needed.
- Perform routine quality checks on mixed inks to ensure adherence to color and quality standards, troubleshooting and addressing any quality issues.
- Collaborate with printing press operators to resolve ink-related issues, such as color variations, ink flow problems, and registration inconsistencies.
- Properly handle and dispose of excess ink and cleaning materials to minimize waste and maintain a clean work environment.
- Maintain detailed records of ink batches, including color formulas, mixing ratios, and quality control data.
- Adhere to all safety protocols related to handling chemicals and hazardous materials, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist with troubleshooting and maintaining ink-related components of printing equipment.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by refining color-matching techniques and ink formulation processes.
- Work with department supervisors to coordinate ink requirements and ensure smooth production schedules.
- Ensure a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Lift and transport ink containers up to 50 lbs. and move 200 lb. drums using proper safety procedures.
- Create, manage, and update inventory reports as needed.
- Perform new product ink testing and quality control assessments.
- Identify potential safety hazards and work with HR Safety Specialist to take appropriate actions to prevent incidents.
- Follow all safety regulations, including hazardous material handling and environmental compliance.
- Receive annual RCRA Hazardous Waste and Contingency Plan training and adhere to environmental protocols.
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- Commit to company safety and quality programs to ensure compliance and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Chemistry, Printing Technology, Oil or Watercolor Painting, or Industrial Engineering is preferred.
- Experience working with inks, printing, or color matching in a production environment is strongly preferred.
- Excellent color perception and the ability to distinguish subtle color variations.
- Strong knowledge of ink chemistry, formulation, and mixing techniques.
- Familiarity with color measurement equipment, ink mixing tools, and printing press operations.
- Attention to detail and precision in measuring and mixing inks.
- Problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve ink-related printing issues.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with press operators, supervisors, and quality control personnel.
- Basic computer skills for inventory tracking and record-keeping.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy ink containers, and work in a fast-paced production environment.
- Willingness to adhere to safety protocols and use PPE when handling chemicals.
- Maintain detailed records of ink batches, including color formulas, mixing ratios, and quality control data.
